About the event
Led by Frank Sladek, Urban and Community Fishing Program Coordinator at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, this half-day experience combines environmental education with real-time action as we work to restore balance to one of our quarry lakes. In addition to providing basic fishing instruction, Mr. Sladek will also walk us through the ecological importance of maintaining balanced fish populations and the surprising ecological challenges posed by species like bluegill, black crappie, and bass when they become overabundant.
Afterward, we’ll take to the water with a community fishing effort designed to tag and remove fish and support long-term ecological restoration.
